Magee Police are urging residents to secure their vehicles and remove firearms after a series of car burglaries overnight in several subdivisions across the city.

According to Magee Police Chief Denis J. Borges, multiple vehicles were broken into late last night and into the early morning hours. Several items were taken, including multiple firearms.

Chief Borges said some suspects will break into vehicles when they see something valuable inside, but many simply walk through neighborhoods pulling on door handles, looking for unlocked vehicles.

“Please stop leaving guns in unlocked vehicles,” Borges said in a statement. “This makes it easier for criminals to access weapons. Lock your vehicles, and if possible, do not leave firearms inside to prevent more guns from ending up in the wrong h
