Gophers starting point guard Chansey Willis Jr. has been ruled out for the rest of the season, coach Niko Medved said on the coaches’ show on Tuesday.
Willis, a transfer from Western Michigan, averaged 6.3 points and 3.3 assists across seven games this season.
Without Willis, the Gophers will count more on starting guard Isaac Asuma, backup Langston Reynolds and true freshman reserve Kai Shinholster.
Willis is believed to have injured his foot during the Chicago State win and played early in the loss to Stanford on Thanksgiving, but then exited the game. He sat out the loss to Santa Clara on Friday. Langston started in his place.
Medved said Willis will be a candidate to receive a medical redshirt for this season.
