Washington — CBS reports that GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York lashed out at House Speaker Mike Johnson, accusing him of blocking a provision that would require the FBI to notify Congress when it opens counterintelligence investigations into candidates running for federal office.

Stefanik, who is a member of Johnson’s leadership team, said Monday she would vote against the National Defense Authorization Act if it does not include her provision. The House could vote on the annual defense policy bill as soon as next week.

In a social media post, Stefanik said Johnson is “getting rolled” by House Democrats who oppose the provision.

“Unless this provision is added back into the bill to prevent illegal political weaponization of the intelligence community in our elections, I am a HARD NO.
