TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) - A second legislative committee approved proposed constitutional amendments Tuesday that would provide significant property tax cuts for Florida homeowners.
Four of eight property tax relief ideas that emerged from an earlier committee advanced through the process, including proposals to eliminate all property taxes and remove them specifically for seniors.
Local governments across Florida continue to oppose the property tax changes. The Florida Constitution requires property taxes as a funding mechanism for local government, and any changes require a voter-approved amendment.
Counties and cities have warned that drastic property tax cuts would create widespread impacts across communities.
