COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Transportation is asking for public input on potential safety and traffic improvements along the Devine Street corridor , an area that officials say has become increasingly dangerous for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
According to SCDOT’s 2025 traffic study, the corridor has seen frequent parked-car crashes, rear-end collisions, side-swipes and bike-pedestrian crashes. Narrow travel lanes, limited visibility at side streets, left-turning vehicles blocking traffic and speeding after dark were listed among the major challenges.
Workers in the area say the problems are easy to spot.
