A Tyneside school continues to explore “positive options” for its future, as a second consultation on its closure and merger looms.
Last week, North Tyneside Council decided to enter into a second consultation on the closure of Hazlewood Community Primary School, after no viable option to keep it open was discovered. It is proposed that Hazlewood is closed and merged with neighbouring Greenfields Community School.
The council’s reasoning behind the proposals include declining birth rates throughout North Tyneside, equivalent to 300 fewer births per year since 2018/19, and the subsequent impact on several school budgets. The school’s “weak and brittle” concrete problem was also taken into consid
