LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Portland Library in west Louisville has reopened following two years of renovations.
The Portland Library Project added an additional 5,400 square feet of space featuring a larger collection of books, materials, additional computers, separate children's and teen areas, meeting spaces and a maker space.
The branch, located on Northwestern Parkway, was originally established in 1905 and housed in a Carnegie-funded building since 1913. It is the third oldest in the Louisville Free Public Library system.
It closed for the renovations in 2023.
Mayor Craig Greenberg was one of many city leaders at Tuesday’s opening, saying every neighborhood across Louisville deserves access to great libraries.
