STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A wave of fraud-related crimes was reported across Stafford County on Monday, with victims losing money and personal information in schemes involving impersonation, identity theft, and financial deception, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
The first incident took place at Colonial Circuits Inc. on Warrenton Road around 9:22 a.m., when an employee reported receiving an email that appeared to come from a fellow staff member. The fraudulent message requested a change in direct deposit information. After a paycheck was deposited into the newly provided account, the company discovered the update was a scam.
