After a winning season beyond the dreams of many, the University of New Mexico Lobos Football team barely had time for a letdown when they learned that they weren't chosen to play in the Mountain West championship game this year.
Instead, they got some good news that overshadowed what suddenly seemed like a small setback in comparison.
In just his first year leading the team, Jason Eck was named Mountain West coach of the year after the team posted a 6-2 record in the conference and a 9-3 record overall. That was the most wins for a first-year coach in UNM football history, and the most wins for the team since 2016.
