Duke Energy announced Dec. 2 that its foundation awarded nearly $275,000 in microgrants to community organizations across South Carolina in celebration of Giving Tuesday.
The “surcee” microgrants were part of the foundation’s monthlong campaign in November to support organizations addressing food insecurity across the state. More than 20 organizations located in Upstate South Carolina received financial support from the Duke Energy Foundation.
“If you grew up in South Carolina, you are likely familiar with a ‘surcee’ – a small, unexpected gift,” said Tim Pearson, president of Duke Energy South Carolina. “Giving Tuesday is the perfect opportunity to give a little something extra and highlight the great work these organizations do throughout the year to help keep our friends and neighbors
