Greenbrier Mall will remain closed Tuesday due to a fire, according to a news release from the Chesapeake Fire Department.
No injuries were reported, but there was a small fire inside the retail store Rootz on the second floor of the mall. Chesapeake Fire Department units were dispatched to the mall at 12:56 p.m. for a commercial fire alarm. The incident was then upgraded to a commercial structure fire after additional 911 calls reported an active fire.
By the time firefighters arrived, the store’s automatic sprinkler system had already controlled the fire. The mall was immediately evacuated and power was secured to affected areas. The fire was determined to be accidental, according to Chesapeake Fire Department.
