FORT SMITH -- A Fort Smith man who was involved in addiction recovery efforts in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley has died from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash in mid-November.

Matthew Samuel Stephens, 49, of Fort Smith died Friday at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, where he had been treated since a wreck that occurred in Fort Smith on Nov. 18, according to details from an online obituary posted by Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith and a fatal crash summary from the Arkansas Department of Public Safety.

Stephens was driving a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle east on Phoenix Avenue in Fort Smith around 7:03 p.m. Nov. 18 when the crash occurred, according to the crash summary. A 2019 Jeep was westbound on Phoenix Avenue and began to turn left onto Massard
