MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The trial of Quinton Tellis has been rescheduled after a key expert witness died in a car wreck just days before he was set to testify.

Retired Brig. Gen. Rowlett was scheduled to testify in the Tellis trial on Dec. 1. Rowlett died in a car wreck while traveling to Monroe on Nov. 29.

Tellis is accused of killing Ming-Chen Hsiao in 2015. Hsiao was an international student at the University of Louisiana Monroe from China.

Court records show Rowlett was an Intelligence Analysis expert. The prosecution was expected to use Rowlett’s testimony to help tie evidence to Tellis as Hsiao’s alleged killer.

According to court records, Rowlett’s death will force the prosecution to either find a new expert or move forward without one. The prosecution said they don’t know if the
