The building industry is asking for another delay before being required to include affordable units in some new projects in Kitchener.
Council approved a framework for inclusionary zoning in March 2024, which would see new developments with 50 or more units near major transit stations required to include a small percentage of affordable units.
It was supposed to start in 2025, but a year ago, councillors agreed to postpone its introduction until 2026 after industry representatives said poor market conditions were already putting the brakes on new development.
Now, with the new deadline looming, builders say the market is even worse.
