After a brief scare in Provo, it appears BYU football coach Kalani Sitake is staying put.

The longtime BYU coach “has begun to inform people that he intends to stay at the school. BYU is in the process of putting together a lucrative contract to keep him,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Tuesday afternoon.

The news comes after days of speculation linking Sitake to the Penn State job.

Sitake did not deny the rumors during an interview this week.

“This is a great distraction to have, let’s be honest,” Sitake said about the rumors on Monday . “I’ll address it with the team. ... But they are used to me saying, ‘Hey, this is a good sign that things are going well for us.’ But I will say that this isn’t about me.”
