The college football regular season is in the books, and the Heisman Trophy race is just about wrapped up.
Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza began Rivalry Week with the best odds to win the sport's most coveted award, but things have changed as we prepare for conference championship weekend. Now, it's beginning to look like the Big Ten championship could prove to be a matchup that determines the Heisman winner.
While a few contenders will have one more chance to state their case this weekend, many are out of action on championship weekend and will have to leave things in the hands of the voters. With just one more weekend of football left before a winner is declared, here's a look at the latest Heisman odds.
8. Dante Moore, CJ Carr, Trinidad Chambliss (+50000)
Odds Last Week (Opening Odds)
- Chambliss: +50000 (off the board)
- Moore: +50000 (+2500)
- Carr: +50000 (+5000)
These three signal-callers didn't see their odds change despite strong performances to close out the regular season. Moore threw for 286 yards and a touchdown in a win over Washington, while Chambliss threw for 359 yards and four touchdowns in an Egg Bowl win over Mississippi State. Carr didn't put up crazy numbers in a blowout win over Stanford, but he did throw for 205 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.
7. Ty Simpson (+40000)
Odds Last Week (Opening Odds)
- Simpson: +30000 (+2000)
Simpson was once the leader in these odds, but his stock continues to slip after an inefficient outing in the Iron Bowl. Alabama got the win and Simpson threw for three touchdowns without an interception, but he completed just 19 of 35 passes for 122 yards.
6. Gunner Stockton, Jacob Rodriguez (+25000)
Odds Last Week (Opening Odds)
- Stockton: +4000 (+2000)
- Rodriguez: +15000 (Off the board)
Stockton threw for just 70 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Georgia's low-scoring win over rival Georgia Tech. Rodriguez, meanwhile, remains the only defensive player on the board but saw his odds slip after totaling just four tackles in a shutout over West Virginia in the regular season finale.
5. Jeremiah Smith (+17500)
Odds Last Week (Opening Odds)
- Smith: +25000 (+1000)
Smith returned to the field for Ohio State's win over Michigan, and though he did find the end zone, he also caught just three balls for 40 yards. Regardless, it was enough to climb back up into the top five.
4. Jeremiyah Love (+2000)
Odds Last Week (Opening Odds)
- Love: +375 (+4000)
Love has had a big back half of the year, and he played himself into the No. 2 spot last week. However, he briefly exited the blowout win over Stanford due to injury and ultimately got just 14 carries for 66 yards and a touchdown. It's been an incredible season for Love, but he probably needed a bigger finale to stay in this race.
3. Fernando Mendoza (+175)
Odds Last Week (Opening Odds)
- Mendoza: -105 (+5500)
Mendoza held a big lead the last two weeks, but things have changed once again after he didn't do much against Purdue. The Hoosiers won 56-3, but he completed just 8 of 15 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Mendoza will have the chance to make a final argument before the voters against a ferocious Ohio State defense in the Big Ten title game.
2. Diego Pavia (+170)
Odds Last Week (Opening Odds)
- Pavia: +600 (+12500)
In a bit of a surprise, Pavia now sits with the second-best odds despite not having his best game through the air in a big road win over Tennessee. He threw for 268 yards but tossed two interceptions to just one touchdown, but he was a menace on the ground, totaling 165 yards and a touchdown. Was it enough to win the Heisman with Vandy idle this weekend?
1. Julian Sayin (+150)
Odds Last Week (Opening Odds)
- Sayin: +400 (+1800)
Sayin has hung around near the top of the odds for a while, even leading at one point, and now he's back in first place with one game remaining. Sayin tossed his fifth pick of the season but threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns against a tough Michigan defense. It seems the Big Ten championship duel between Sayin and Mendoza could ultimately determine the Heisman winner.
