OSSIAN, Ind. (WPTA) - A 12-year-old girl from Ossian has been named one of Riley Hospital for Children’s newest ‘champions’ after battling a rare kidney disorder for nearly a decade.
Each year, Riley Champions are selected to honor patients who show courage and a commitment to helping others. Ivy Selking is the only champion from 21Country this year.
Her journey began when she was two years old.
“I was two and then it was Thanksgiving week, and I started getting all puffy,” Ivy said.
Her parents took her to the doctor, where they received devastating news. Ivy was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, a rare kidney disorder that causes dangerous swelling and can lead to serious long-term health issues.
