TOLEDO, Ohio — The city of Toledo took another step toward finalizing its 2026 budget on Tuesday.
Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz unveiled his plans two weeks ago for a $392 million city budget for next year. Tuesday was the next step with a budget overview public hearing.
City council went through a 20-page document for about an hour on Tuesday afternoon, where they presented the budget as a whole for next year.
This included plans for the $392 million general fund, with plans to add 25 new police officers, 20 new firefighters and set aside $36 million for repairs on 134 roads citywide.
They discussed the proposed operating and capital budget overview, which is essentially the city's plan for everyday spending, major projects and how they'll pay for all of it.
