WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A group of Wichita churches, called Justice Together, wants part of the City of Wichita’s proposed sales tax to go towards the city’s affordable housing fund.
A separate group backing the proposed sales tax, called Wichita Forward, estimates that the 1% tax could bring in $850,000,000 over seven years. However, the group’s current spending outline does not include affordable housing.

Justice Together is asking that $10,000,000 of that estimated tax be dedicated to the affordable housing fund. It says that the money would support local nonprofits that build affordable housing, groups like Mennonite Housing and other community developers.
