DUBLIN, Ga. — Dublin City Schools chose to eliminate its school choice transportation routes Tuesday as part of ongoing efforts to address a multimillion-dollar budget deficit , marking another cost-cutting measure in the district's financial recovery plan.
The elimination affects routes that previously allowed students to take buses to schools outside their designated neighborhood zones. The change comes as the district grapples with a deficit exceeding $13 million and owes nearly $7 million to the state's health benefits plan.
School choice routes were transportation options the district provided to students who chose to attend schools beyond their zoned areas. The service is now being restructured as part of a deficit reduction plan released in October.
