The director of the Jonesboro Parks and Recreation Department was placed on leave Tuesday after the city learned he was under investigation by the federal Department of Justice, a city spokesperson said.

Danny Kapales was placed on leave pending resolution of the investigation, city spokesperson Brian Richardson said. He declined to say what the investigation is about.

A city news release referred questions about the investigation to the FBI's Little Rock field office.

Jessica Franklin, a spokesperson for the office, said the FBI conducted "court-authorized law enforcement activity" in Jonesboro on Tuesday.

"Currently, there is no threat to public safety," Franklin added. She said the FBI would not provide additional details because the investigation is ongoing.
