RADNOR — Archbishop Carroll senior Bridget Grant knows that wearing the captain’s title means being ready for big moments. Opening night delivered one, and she answered.
Grant knocked down the game-winning 3-pointer with three seconds left, lifting the Patriots to a 49-48 win over Academy of Notre Dame on Tuesday.
Her teammates mobbed her as Notre Dame took a timeout. It was a perfect way to kick off a long season that Carroll hopes ends deep in March again.
What made the shot even sweeter was that Grant had not connected from the field all game. She had taken just three shots and none had fallen. With All-Delco senior guard Alexis Eberz fouling out earlier in the fourth quarter, the ball found Grant up top. She caught in rhythm and buried it without hesitation.
