The Islanders again did almost all the things necessary to beat one of the NHL’s better teams, starting with goalie Ilya Sorokin’s strong effort.
And, this time, they scored enough goals.
The Islanders snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Lightning on Tuesday night at UBS Arena in the penultimate match of a seven-game homestand.
The homestand started 1-3-1 with the Islanders (14-10-3) scoring just six goals despite outshooting their previous three opponents.
Sorokin made 28 saves, backstopping the Islanders’ 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 21 shots for the Lightning (16-8-2), who had a seven-game winning streak snapped during which they had outscored opponents 30-10.
