PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Peoria Public Schools now have full ownership of the Central Park Pool with the expectation that swimming will again be part of the school curriculum, however renovating the pool will cost millions.
Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat said the Peoria Park District no longer wanted to manage the pool. PPS and the park district previously co-owned the building near Peoria High School.
Kherat said the district has plans to renovate the pool, but it is expected to cost around $3 million. Central Park Pool is about 55-years old and needs updates to the filter system, infrastructure, HVAC, and more.
She said while it’s a big and expensive project, Peoria’s children need the pool.
