TOLEDO, Ohio — For the fourth consecutive December, Central Catholic is preparing for a state championship game, and for the third straight season, playing a familiar team. The Fighting Irish meet Bishop Watterson once again, a now-three-year trilogy for the Division III title.
"You have two teams that are great programs, that have a storied tradition in history, that are on a pretty good run right now," head coach Greg Dempsey said. "Hopefully we can do a great job and make it a great matchup again this week."
This rivalry isn't built by geography, but rather by championships. Central Catholic took the first meeting in 2023, winning 27-7, while the Eagles took the rematch last year 19-14. The Irish have won six state championships in football, including five under Dempsey, while the Eag
