MAUMEE, Ohio — Chelsea Ziss,36, made history this week when she was sworn in as Maumee’s youngest mayor — and the first woman to ever hold the position. But her rapid rise and limited political experience have left residents with mixed feelings about the city’s direction.
Ziss moved into the public service spotlight only months ago. She went from being a mayoral candidate in a then-citizen-led recall effort in July to an appointed city council member in August. She then won an elected council seat in November. On Monday, she was elevated again, becoming mayor after Jim MacDonald announced his retirement .
