DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Dubuque City Council is evaluating the future of air travel from the city, focusing on its contract with Denver Air Connection .
Denver Air Connection began offering flights from Dubuque to Chicago last year. The city has been providing funding to cover the costs of these flights until a sufficient number of passengers book tickets.
Denver Air is the only commercial air service in Dubuque. At Monday evening’s City County meeting, Mayor Brad Cavanagh highlighted the funding challenges.
"The challenge here is that we don't have another funding mechanism from the federal government right now like a lot of almost every other community in the country to be able to pay for this," Cavanagh said.
He emphasized the need for community cooperation in addressing this issue.
