LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Tension ran high Tuesday night as Lansing residents packed a joint meeting of the city’s Human Relations and Community Services Advisory Board and the Mayor’s Neighborhood Advisory Board.
Many stated they felt blindsided by the city’s proposed sites for its 50-unit “Mod-Pod” transitional housing project.
For some, the issue wasn’t the project itself; it was where the city wants to put it. They’ve put five possible sites on the table, including Debbie Stabenow Park, Comstock Park, Hunter Park, Reasoner Park, and the former Shabazz Academy.
“If we’ve already been evicting people from parks and cemeteries and encampments, how do you turn around and put one in place?” said Lansing resident Loretta Stanaway.
