ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — For a city that only incorporated itself in 2016, the metro Atlanta city of South Fulton has seen a lot of political turmoil.
On Tuesday, South Fulton voters elected its third mayor in eight years, with Carmelitha Gumbs replacing incumbent Khalid “Kobi” Kamau, who placed a distant third in the city’s general election last month.
Gumbs won with 8,007 votes. Mark Baker, who was also running to become mayor, got 5,394 votes.
Gumbs is currently a South Fulton city councilwoman, having been on the council since the city’s incorporation. Her background in the healthcare industry has focused on senior care and preventive services, and community wellness programs.
