MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — On Monday, Monroe County's Emergency Management Agency took to social media to alert residents of a nationwide cyberattack that affects users in Central Georgia .

The cyberattack occurred in November, and involves the alert system "OnSolve CodeRED" . The nationwide emergency alert system is used by agencies like Monroe EMA to issue alerts concerning weather, missing persons, and other emergencies.

According to Captain Christina Bramlett with Monroe Emergency Services, the breach was not caused by Monroe County EMA.

"There are multiple hundreds of thousands of departments across the country that use the CodeRED system for mass notification," Bramlett said. "And so this has been an issue nationwide, not just Monroe County, but a cyber criminal group has already cl
