Like most Americans, I was horrified last week to learn about the targeted shooting of two West Virginia National Guard members on deployment in Washington, D.C. U.S. Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, 20, has since died from her wounds and U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, fights for his life in the hospital, while federal law enforcement tries to discover how and why the gunman committed this heinous crime.
I live in Washington and, every day on my commute to work, I pass the street corner where these two young soldiers were viciously attacked.
