GRESHAM, Oregon — Citing growing concerns over of federal immigration activity, community members appealed to Gresham City Council members on Tuesday, asking them to declare a state of emergency in the city.
"Our city of Gresham is under attack, federal agents are carrying out violent sweeps against innocent people," said Ana Munoz, during public testimony. "They are not targeting criminals, they are targeting our neighbors, our co-workers, our family, our friends."
Others testified that people in Gresham have rearranged their lives hoping to avoid being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
"This is a crisis," testified Raquel Barajas. "Businesses are losing, families are being torn apart, and children are scared to go to school."
