A Port Orchard man who crashed his way into an Ellensburg jewelry store by using a stolen Nissan sedan and made off with $31,000 worth of diamond rings, necklaces and custom-made Ellensburg blue jewelry has been sentenced to 65 months in prison.
Gary Michael Moyer pleaded guilty in October to second-degree burglary and first-degree theft for the January 2023 heist at Kim Khap Gem & Jewelry.
Moyer, 39, was sentenced on the felony crimes in Kittitas County Superior Court on Nov. 20.
Defense attorney Paul McBride told the judge the break-in at the Main Street business was literally a “smash-and-grab” operation.
“And by ‘smash,’ I do mean ‘smash.’ They smashed a car into the plate glass window of the storefront; started grabbing jewelry,” McBride said of Moyer and his accomplice.
