From ramen purists to those just dipping their toes in the broth, these restaurants offer a Japanese dining experience right here in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE – If you ask Scott LaChapelle, he will confess that up to 2017, he went most of his life oblivious to the world of Japanese ramen .

“Like most people, I would just associate ramen with cup noodles or something that was in a frozen pack,” LaChapelle said. “Where I grew up, there was no ramen under any restaurant menu or anything.”

It took LaChapelle a 14-hour flight to Japan to experience the real thing.
