A new £5.5m footbridge aimed at improving accessibility for train passengers will open next year.

Greater Anglia has completed the installation of the first-of-its-kind accessible ‘AVA’ footbridge at Stowmarket station at the weekend.

The £5.5 million project, which features lifts built into the bridge’s design, aims to improve accessibility and ease for passengers transferring between platforms.

The bridge is scheduled to open to passengers in the first quarter of 2026 after testing and project works are completed.

Brand-new pictures show the bridge's installation, which took place over 47 hours using a 500-tonne mobile crane and lorry loader.

Five major movements were required, including positioning a 29-tonne staircase section.
