PEORIA, Ill. – Multiple residents were displaced after a trash fire at New Hope Apartments in downtown Peoria on Tuesday evening.
Battalion Chief Josh Maroney said crews were called to the building on NE Jefferson just after 6:30 p.m., finding a fire in the hallway on the fifth floor.
Everyone was evacuated from the building, and no injuries were reported.
The building’s sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading, but there was extensive water damage to multiple units, Maroney said.
Restoration work has begun, and residents are expected to be able to return to their apartments once the work is done.
This is the second fire in recent weeks at New Hope Apartments. A fire early in the morning on October 20 was intentionally set, causing $200,000 damage.
