EAST LANSING – Pat Fitzgerald was hired on Monday, introduced publicly on Tuesday and will sign a new recruiting class on Wednesday.

It’s a whirlwind week for Michigan State football’s new coach who has a lot on his plate while starting the job at a chaotic time. Although Tuesday marked Fitzgerald’s 51 st birthday, his attention is well beyond cakes and candles.

“My voice is a little raspy for a reason,” Fitzgerald said during his introductory press conference on Tuesday afternoon. “The amount of FaceTimes I was on last night, I think it stopped maybe at 11:30 when it was like, OK, I think this too late to be calling kids in their home, so I still have some more to get to today.”
