Other people’s Christmas traditions always appear mad to outsiders, especially when you don’t share a culture. What did Meghan Markle make of British Christmases with the royals? I’d love to know, but until she gives up being a lifestyle business lady podcaster and gets a Pulitzer Prize-winning writer to pen her memoirs , we’re stuck with two banal observations.

One, that Christmas crackers are a big part of “British culture” and it’s “sweet” we love to “connect” over pulling them. And two, that beets are “beetroots, as they say in England”.
