The first major snowstorm of the season walloped Massachusetts on Tuesday, bringing black ice, school delays and heavy accumulations of snow.

Western Massachusetts bore the brunt of the storm, with some areas reporting more than half a foot of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile, most of Eastern Massachusetts stayed wet rather than white, as rain dominated the day — but some areas did get flakes.
