To the Editor:

As Micron is poised to begin the huge chip building project, we applaud the work by local folks such as CNY United for Community Benefits, who have spent countless hours focused on ensuring this project benefits our entire community. The new Democratic majority in the Onondaga County Legislature is in a position to demonstrate their leadership by making this project contingent on two non-negotiable components.

First, the project must draw electric power for its operations from new renewable sources, namely solar, wind and hydro. If the massive amounts of electricity needed for Micron are drawn from fossil fuels, then this project will add to the climate emergency unfolding all around us. We cannot turn our backs on ensuring the planet is habitable for our children and
