Detectives with the Seattle Police Department (SPD) are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting in the Rainier Valley neighborhood of South Seattle.

The suspect shot by police officers was allegedly waving a handgun near 42nd Avenue S. and S. Othello Street. When officers arrived after a bystander reported the disturbance, he approached them while armed and shirtless. Officers responded by firing at the suspect.

No officers were injured in the shooting. The suspect is now in custody. A large police presence is at the Othello light rail station. That station has been temporarily shut down, with Sound Transit providing buses nearby.

“The 1 line service is temporarily suspended between Columbia City and Rainier Beach stations,” Sound Transit reported.
