A heating specialist has shared his thoughts on how to arrange your radiator for the best energy efficiency. While you might assume painting the appliance black is the optimal choice, experts at paint retailer Ronseal suggest this isn't the most important consideration. Senior brand manager Jimmy Englezos cautioned that the colour of your radiator isn't necessarily the key factor for heating performance.

He said: "A radiator's heat output is actually more manipulated by the reflectiveness of its paint finish. Shiny surfaces such as chrome or stainless steel will reduce its overall heat output since the shinier surface reduces its ability to transfer heat to the surrounding air."
