WAUSEON, Ohio — For more than four decades, Dave Storrer has been a constant at Wauseon High School, specifically with the boys basketball team.

The assistant coach, retired teacher, husband and proud grandfather is woven into the fabric of the community. But his most recent offseason took a frightening turn.

The 68-year-old has always considered himself active. Then, an ordinary May afternoon after doing yard work, things changed in a matter of minutes.

“It just felt like somebody hit me in the chest with a sledgehammer. I sat down. Didn’t go away, laid down, didn’t go away, so I took two aspirin and called 911,” Storrer said.

He doesn't remember getting out of the ambulance and arriving at the hospital.
