SOUTH CAROLINA (WBTV) - A person in South Carolina became the state’s first death of the 2025-2026 flu season, health officials said on Wednesday morning.

The South Carolina Department of Public Health confirmed the person’s death in a Dec. 3 .

Health officials did not say how old the person who died was but did say they were from the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Flu season officially started Sept. 28 in South Carolina, and typically runs through the start of spring.
