Hazel Mae, a prominent in-game reporter for the Toronto Blue Jays, has been awarded the Jack Graney Award by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. This honor recognizes her significant contributions to baseball in Canada, particularly during the Blue Jays' recent run to the World Series.
Mae has been a key figure in Blue Jays broadcasts since 2015. Her engaging reporting style has brought the excitement of the game into the homes of millions of Canadians. The award is presented annually to a media member who has made notable contributions to baseball throughout their career.
During the 2025 season, Mae played a crucial role in the Blue Jays' broadcasts, which achieved record ratings. The team made a thrilling journey to the World Series, ultimately falling just two outs short against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7. Mae's pre-game interviews and in-game updates have been vital in connecting fans with the team's activities and atmosphere in the dugout.
Scott Crawford, the director of operations for the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, praised Mae's impact on the sport. "Hazel Mae has set the bar extremely high for Major League Baseball’s in-game reporters," he said. He noted that her in-depth player interviews and insights have often been highlights of the Blue Jays' coverage.
Crawford also emphasized Mae's role as an ambassador for baseball in Canada, stating, "Her impact on baseball in Canada reaches far beyond her work in the field."
Mae began her career with Sportsnet in 2001 as a host for Sportsnet Central. She later worked as a lead anchor for the New England Sports Network (NESN) in Boston and joined the MLB Network in 2008. After three years in New York, she returned to Canada in 2011, taking on a studio anchor role before becoming a staple of the Blue Jays coverage.
With this award, Mae joins fellow Sportsnet broadcasters Buck Martinez and Dan Shulman, who received the Graney Award in 2023 and 2020, respectively. Mae expressed her gratitude for the recognition, saying, "Words cannot begin to express how honoured I am by this recognition. Joining the distinguished group of Jack Graney Award winners leaves me feeling deeply humbled and profoundly grateful."
She added, "This group includes incredible writers, broadcasters, and storytellers whom I’ve loved, admired, been inspired by, and proudly call colleagues and friends."
