WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — An off-duty Willoughby police officer was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic Wednesday morning, according to the department’s public information officer, Lt. Mike Sevel.

Sevel confirmed the officer was working an off-duty construction job in the area of Vine Street and Lakeland Boulevard when he was struck from behind by a vehicle at approximately 11:45 a.m.

"The officer was transported to University Hospitals Lake West Medical Center for evaluation and was later released without any serious injuries," Sevel noted in a release sent out Wednesday afternoon.

The incident remains under investigation and officials say possible charges related to the crash are pending.
