LANSING, Michigan — Michigan has the best drivers with the fewest crashes in the United States, according to two recent studies on American drivers.

A new study from Lending Tree looked at insurance inquiry data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and determined that Michigan has the best drivers in the country. The study used a data set that included incidents between the dates of Jan. 1, 2025, and Sept. 30, 2025.

Michigan was found to have the lowest crash rate per 1,000 drivers at just 10. That's about three times lower than the states with the highest rates: New Jersey (31.5), Rhode Island (29.0) and California (28.1).
