An 88-year-old Army veteran who has spent years working full-time to stay afloat is finally preparing for retirement after supporters raised more than $1.2 million (£902,000) to help him rebuild his life.
Ed Bambas had expected a quiet old age when he left General Motors (GM) in 1999. Instead, the pensioner was forced into jobs at a hardware store and later as a cashier at a supermarket after the pension he earned through decades of service was wiped out.
