EL DORADO, Kan. (KAKE) - A man has been sentenced to four years' probation in connection with the death of his adopted 6-year-old daughter, who was found buried in the backyard of a Rose Hill home last year.

A Butler County judge on Wednesday sentenced Joseph Schroer to 48 months of probation with an underlying prison sentence of 14 months, meaning he's subject to prison if he violates probation. He pleaded no contest in October to two counts of aggravated child endangerment and one count of Medicaid fraud.

Schroer's ex-wife, Crystina Schroer, previously pleaded no contest and was found guilty of second-degree murder, child abuse, making a false writing and theft. She was sentenced last month to 18 years in prison.
