The script for the shelved 1988 Christmas special that was deemed too offensive to air is now up for sale for £10,000
A Blackadder script that was considered 'too offensive' for broadcast is now being sold for £10,000. The sitcom, starring Rowan Atkinson, aired for four series on BBC One during the 1980s, with a completely different Christmas special originally planned for 1988 before Blackadder's Christmas Carol was produced.
The rejected episode, called Blackadder in Bethlehem, was penned by Richard Curtis but was eventually scrapped over fears it would provoke too much controversy, as the Love Actually screenwriter explained in a note attached to the script.
Curtis and co-writer Ben Elton decided instead to create a fresh concept, which later became Blackadder's Christmas Caro
